You could not call him on Thursday to come out on Friday, he needed at least two weeks notice. The only exception was when my brother Garry threw a surprise visit from Australia a couple of years ago. We had a family meal, and having given him the requisite notice he came. When Garry turned up and surprised us we decided to follow this up with some beer at my place. Uncle Alan couldn’t come, he had jobs to do. On the way back to Tufton Road he said ‘I suppose I could do my jobs tomorrow’ and he came. Garry probably doesn’t realise how honoured he was!
